A spherical confection from the Indian subcontinent is called laddu. It is composed of sugar syrup, jaggery, and other components. Sweetened spherical balls composed of flour, sugar, ghee or oil, nuts, and flavorings are referred known as laddu or ladoo. The laddu's history begins in the fourth century BC. Legend has it that the renowned surgeon Susruta the elder started treating his patients with it as an antibacterial. Laddu recipes come in a variety of forms, each using special ingredients and cooking techniques. Among the several laddu types are:
